Let us recapitulate Sunday’s Scripture reading and be reminded of one of the very important truths contained in it:
2 Cor 4:16-18 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. :17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, :18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
We are no longer mere temporal beings that are subjected to whatever life may throw at us! No, being born of God we have become eternal beings. That is what the resurrection of Jesus brought about. In Gal. 2:20 Paul states that he has been crucified with Christ. However, Christ not only died for us, but was also resurrected so that we can walk on earth as He had done after His resurrection!
We tend to think that we have to walk as Jesus did, but mostly only in the sense of His sinless life (that was the purpose of the cross). But there is more… He also emulated the victory over sin and the resurrection power of the new creation!
Having become an eternal being like Jesus (born of the Seed of God), our perspective needs to change to that of eternal life that is now at work in us. All our problems and challenges are temporal, but because we are now eternal beings, we will outlive all our troubles! Therefore, our focus needs to be on eternal solutions and not momentarily difficulties. That way we will start embracing the Life that has cost God so much to bring to us!
