“Light from on high”
– Luk 1:78 (AMP)
New “soul-skins”
Act 17:11 These were more fair-minded… in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.
The people of Thessalonica resisted the “new” teaching about Jesus that Paul was bringing them, because it didn’t fit their Jewish religious thinking and traditions. However, the people in Berea responded differently. They were open to truth. They listened, initially accepting the teaching, and then went off testing the teaching to Scripture.
Most people are resistant to change. No one likes their lives being upset. We are such creatures of habit! We tend to view all new information through our “spectacles” of understanding, culture and upbringing. Like the people of Thessalonica, many people try to prove teaching wrong, instead searching the Bible to see it just might just be the truth, even if it goes against their own understanding – that is noble (fair-mindedness). Scripture is clear: old wineskins cannot hold new wine. The wineskin first has to be renewed, become pliable and ready. And that necessitates a process!
We are currently focusing on the renewing process of our souls. That is all about “wineskin preparing”. This coming Sunday I would like to speak on the importance of our emotions, and how that can either support or resist the new wine of the Holy Spirit. Be sure not to miss this teaching. I believe it will help us.
Spend time meditating on the Word today and be open to the Holy Spirit’s revelation. Blessings to you.
