Prophetic Timing
“Do not despise prophecies.” (1 Thes 5:20 NKJV).
Prophecy in the New Testament church is meant to encourage (see 1 Cor 14:3), yet, one of the biggest dangers is to tie timing to a prophecy. How many disappointments did not arise when prophetic words did not seem to come to pass in the expected timeframe? God’s time (eternal time) is not the same as our human time. Prophetic timing is most often shrouded in mystery – consider the well-known phrase in Dan 7:25 “…then the saints shall be given into his hand for a time and times and half a time”. We interpret this to be three and a half years, but is it really?*see footnote Having said that, God does sometimes tell us the exact time when a prophecy will be fulfilled.
The second difficulty we can run into with prophetic timing is disobedience. God most often will fulfil a prophetic word through people. People can be reluctant to obey God (or even hear God), or simply refuse the Divine prompt. The Bible contains such examples – Israel refused God’s Word and delayed their entry into God’s Promises by 40 years.
All of the above is meant to encourage you to hold on to God’s Promises and not to give up! The prophetic word is trustworthy and if you have had a personal prophecy over your life, you should know if it truly was from God or not.
I believe we live on the edge of many prophetic fulfillments but let’s leave the timing to God! And if maybe other people are hindering the outcome, simply pray God’s grace over them. Remember, we may never manipulate people in prayer – we are all on a progressive journey with God!
NB: Please note all the important event-dates below (we’re still living in earth-time! 🙂 ).
God bless!
