“Light from on high”
– Luk 1:78 (AMP)
So many voices…
In this day and age of IT we are swamped with information. No previous generation had ever been exposed to so many voices. The difficulty in discerning what is real and what is fake is ever increasing. And then there are also political drives to control what is shared. I had to giggle the other day when I visited an Internet site claiming to separate real news from fake news. Looking at the “About-page” of the website, all I could notice was how many government organisations the owners were connected to…
But the voice of the Church is also heard in our technological world. Many are hearing from God about the world’s current mess. Suggestions are made to anoint our front doors with oil, to pray Ps. 91 daily, to all pray together at a specific time, to blow the shofar, and so on. It is also prophesied that by Divine intervention the pandemic will cease in the next short while. I pray that the prophetic voice of the Church will truly rise to such a level that nations would sit up and listen. We are called to be the light of the world!
But the question remains: how do we know what to believe and what to question? Logic will just not do it. As there is a spiritual agenda behind all that happens on earth, we desperately need spirit-input. We are already so conditioned to evaluate everything by intellectual prowess. The fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil is so deeply embedded in our human make-up. But what we as born-again believers need is what Rev 2:7 speaks about: “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.”
Before I close with a last verse from the Bible, my advice is to let the Holy Spirit lead us in discernment. And if your discernment differs from mine, don’t be concerned, everyone of us only “knows in part and prophesies in part” (1 Cor 13:9), but “what is not of faith is sin” (Rom 14:23). We each must obey God’s Spirit as He reveals to us personally, but for that to happen, we need to learn to listen more. Remember the words of Paul in Rom 14:10 & 12 “But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ… So then each of us shall give account of himself to God”.
