“Light from on high”

A Melody in your Heart
I thought of doing something “retro” in our newsletter today. So, I’d like to give you extracts from old song lyrics that I still remember. In the day, church members use to memorize most songs – unlike the trend today. If you’ve not been in the church environment for a long time, you may not recognize all the songs, but I’m sure they will still encourage you!
We all experience a cold shoulder one or other time. This song says:
When the world seems cold
and your friends seem few
there is Someone who cares for you…
The best Friend to share everything with:
What a Friend we have in Jesus…
Oh, what peace we often forfeit
Oh, what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer…
The blessedness of prayer:
Sweet hour of prayer
That calls me from a world of care
And bids me at my Father’s throne
Make all my wants and wishes known
In seasons of distress and grief
My soul has often found relief…
Everybody should be familiar with this amazing song:
…through many dangers, toils and snares…
we have already come.
t’was Grace that brought us safe thus far…
and Grace will lead us home
And then a song taken from the Bible:
Be still and know that I am God…
I am the Lord that health thee…
I just cannot exclude one of my own favourites (in Afrikaans)
As ek sit aan Jesus’ voete
spreek Hy woorde soet tot my
Beste plek wat ek ontdek het
mag dit my aldag daar kry…
May you all have a song in your heart today! Remember, the Bible guides us by saying in Eph 5:19 “speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord”
Regards
