The thought that I want to discuss with you today is the fact that everything you do today, determines your future. I know that Jesus said “do not worry about tomorrow” and indeed that is true! Worrying about the future is absolutely meaningless but that does not mean you don’t have to plan for the future. Because the wise man in Proverbs said that we have to look at the Ants, how they gather together for the Winter time. So, though we don’t worry about tomorrow, we have to plan for it. It was a very well-known poet that wrote and said (and I’ll translate this freely) “if I know the world is going to end tomorrow I will still plant a tree today”. Because the things you do today are actually making your bed to sleep on tomorrow. I was looking in my bathroom where I have a couple of paintings that I did in 2013 (seven years ago) and I thought to myself, I wonder if I ever will do another one, because I haven’t been painting lately and then I realized that if I don’t do a painting today I will have nothing in seven years time – nothing new on the wall. So the little things we can do today are vitally important! In fact we accepted Jesus one day and that determines eternity! So even if you have very little today, you can share maybe a slice of bread with someone that has nothing, and that will be returned to you someday. Jesus said that for every glass of cold water you give to another person who is a servant of the Lord you will not lose your reward. None of us are in a place that we cannot do a good deed or a deed of benevolence to someone else. It is the smile you give today that you will reap tomorrow. So I want to encourage you today: do not let this day go by, and don’t just handle the troubles of this day, and just plan for this day, but sow a little seed of happiness or kindness! Maybe you have a 5 Rand in your pocket to give to the beggar at the street corner and maybe that cannot buy him a bread, but if a couple of people were to do that, maybe he can buy himself a loaf of bread at the end of the day. It’s the little things that matter. I think it was the well-known Mother Teresa that said she just does one dead of kindness everyday. It’s the one thing you do today; you save one soul at a time; you help someone today… Don’t let those little moments pass us. We so easily can get frustrated with a day and let rip at someone and get angry with some and you know, at the end of the day we feel depressed and negative! That was not worth it because it’s more blessed for the hand that gives than for the one that receives. So, sow your dead of goodness this day and know for sure you will reap it in future. The whole concept of sowing reaping is based on this! Sow your seed today and may the Lord bless you. It is George Nel, pastor of the Lighthouse, signing off and wishing you God’s blessing today. Amen
